Los científicos que por un año hicieron estudios del volcán Barú en Chiriquí confirmaron que los temblores de mayo de 2006 que azotaron Boquete se debieron a una actividad volcánica muy profunda, pero no hay indicios de que se vuelva a presentar.

Ni los temblores, ni la red sismológica indican el advenimiento de una nuevo episodio por el momento.

La Secretaría Nacional para la Ciencia y la Tecnología (Senacyt) reveló los detalles del estudio geológico que se inició en enero del pasado 2007 en el área del volcán Barú.
Los científicos determinaron que los temblores registrados en mayo del año 2006, y que alarmaron a la comunidad de Boquete, tuvieron origen primario en actividades volcánicas, pero no son el indicio de que en un futuro cercano se registrará otra erupción o un nuevo episodio volcánico.

Julio Escobar, secretario nacional de Senacyt, explicó que la interpretación de un grupo de científicos es que el origen primario de esos temblores fue una actividad volcánica muy profunda, en la que se liberaron gases que lubricaron las placas tectónicas superficiales de la región y que dieron por resultados los temblores del año 2006 en Boquete.

Los secretos del Volcán
Para los ciudadanos de las tierras altas chiricanas, en los alrededores del año 1950 no llegó el holocausto debido a la invasión de las culturas europeas, sino que pudo ser por la erupción que se registró, confirmó el propio Escobar.
La cultura de Barriles, que ha dejado múltiples muestras de su presencia en zonas cercanas a la localidad de Volcán, en el distrito de Bugaba, pudo haber sido una de las más afectadas, aunque serán los arqueólogos los que darán más detalles, dijo Escobar.
Moradores de tierras altas siempre se han preguntado cuál fue la razón por la que esta civilización desapareció solo dejando rastros de orfebrería y utensilios, y la respuesta puede estar en aquella erupción de mediados del siglo XVI, donde fueron castigadas las zonas de Boquete, Volcán y Cerro Punta o Caizán.
En aquellas zonas, a una distancia similar, en caso de una futura situación sísmica se pueden presentar avalanchas de lodo, flujo de cenizas ardientes y nubes de cenizas, y son riesgos que se deben tomar en serio por lo que generación tras generación tenemos que aceptar que convivimos con volcanes activos, tanto el de La Yeguada como el Barú.
La inversión en sismógrafos por parte del Estado fue de 50 mil dólares y varios miles dólares más en cuanto a capacitación de funcionarios, explicó Escobar.
Hablan los boqueteños
La maestra jubilada Adela de Montenegro relató que sus ancestros decían que cuando los cultivos crecían en forma desmedida se podría presentar una erupción.
Mientras tanto Carlos Enrique Landau, empresario hotelero, dijo que el informe de Senacyt es tranquilizador y está seguro que las declaraciones de los científicos van a crear más confianza en la comunidad.

Hola soy Arkin Tapia. Te escribo para que corrijas la fecha que tienen en el parrafo de secretos del Baru debe ser 1550 y no 1950. Por lo demas me parece que todo esta bien. Conocer cuando va a volver a ocuurir y erupcion, es dificil, y solo manteniendo un sistema de registros sismicos permanentes podremos conocer el comportamiento de esta importante estructura volcanica.

Me parece interesante el hecho de que exista la teoria que los antiguos habitantes de esa provincia pudieran haber desaparecido debito una erupcion del volcan.La naturaleza es impredecible por lo tanto siempre hay que estar alerta a la espectativa de que ocurra algun suceso que tal vez hacia mucho que no se veia. La belleza del volcan es extraordinaria debemos cuidar y proteger nuestros ecosistemas naturales.

Es lamentale el desconocimiento panameño sobre los volcanes, ya que hace muy poco el desaparecido IRHE empezo los estudios bulcando energia geotermica, segun los geologos y arqueologos el volcan Barú hizo erupcion cerca del año 1050, en donde perdio gran parte de su altura y cono con una explosion violenta que se ven ls piedra en David, Concepción, Gualaca, e incluso del lado de Bocas del Toro, debido al agua que tiene el volcan en su parte interna, la lava a mas de 2000 grados centigrados el agua explota como una caldera gigante, mas la energia del volcan. Capaz de cerrar el cañon de nueva Suiza y Bambito y hacer de Cerro Punta una Laguna, que con el tiempo se erociono el tapon, pero el rio doblo al Oeste y formo el rio Chiriqui Viejo que apenas cabe en su cause, mientras que el rio Chico o Piedras tiene cause pero no agua e igual nace en la faldas del volcan, el rio que doblo al oeste era la naciente del rio Chico,
Pero la incognica de Barriles, como desaparecio? No fue el Volcan Baru, no coinciden las fechas.
Fue el Volcan Tisingal, recien descubierto por los geologos del IRHE, muy cercano a Barriles, que con gases venenosos volcanicos mato a los pobladores y con la ceniza sepulto literalmente la cultura.
Falta investigar si Cerro Pando, Orqueta y Fabrega son Volcanes: Asi como la fecha de erupción del Volcan del Valle de anton que es su crater, es probable que en el norte de Veraguas y en Darien existan mas volcanes.
Asi mis panas estamos empezando a saber de los volcanes…..y si no sabemos mucho de ellos es porque no han sido y no son hoy una amenaza, mañana amanecera y veremos
Definitivamente es lamentable que la gran mayoría de los panameños le dediquen tiempo y energìas a situaciones que no lo ameritan, ciertamente se han realizado estudios en el Volcán Barú, pero esto no indica que no debamos estar preparados para cualquier eventualidad natural que se presente, como se ha visto de igual forma en otras regiones a nivel mundial. Panamá de ninguna forma está preparado para afrontar desastres naturales, los gobernantes de turno prefieren invertir en cosas que a las finales no le resuelven la vida a ningún panameño, solo reflexionemos como anda la medicina a nivel nacional, el agua que es lo primordial.
La naturaleza es sabia señores y pueda ser que no nos toque muy tarde aprender de esto, porque al fin de cuentas en este país existen personas nobles e inocentes.
